Spyke Deggnogg CD – Christmas In Your Face Vol 4

In December 2000, my evil twin, Loren Hill, presented me with an idea of covering “Little Drummer Boy” that would break into a riff from Slayer. Make some copies and give them to friends and family as Christmas presents. I thought that he was mad, but it was a good idea. Since then we’ve recorded a few songs each year for EP’s. This year we decided to remaster all of the previous years and release a full length. So in this package is the culmination of 4 years of effort with 27 very talented people. A collection of 15 Christmas songs that ranges from beautiful to insane. Mostly covers, some original. Here’s the play by play.

1. Do You Hear What I Hear
Traditional. We call this the “Godspell” or “ABC After School Special” arrangement

2. Father Christmas
Originally recorded by The Kinks. A slightly more punky version than the original.

3. Snow Miser
From “The Year Without Santa Clause” animated Christmas special. Snow Miser was one of the two sons of Mother Nature. Performed ala Nathan Lane at a Disco.

4. Heat Miser
Also from “The Year Without Santa Clause” Heat Miser was the feuding brother of Snow Miser. Performed by Haggis Rising!!!!!! Scotland’s most obstinate rock band.

5. All That Christmas Means
An absolutely stunning original Christmas song by David Newman. Simply beautiful.

6. Merry Christmas I Don’t Want to Fight Anymore
Originally recorded by the Ramones. Here in honor of the recent passing of Joey and Johnny Ramone. New B-52 adaptation unauthorized by the Ramones.

7. Little Drummer Boi
Traditional. Here’s where it all began. A swamp bayou version of the classic that works into a drum solo. Out of the solo we land into an acoustic version of Slayer’s “Reign in Blood” bridge riff to finish the song out.

8. Silent Night
Traditional. Gorgeous ballad duet version of the tune.

9. Happy Christmas (War is Over)
Originally recorded by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Fortunately, our version is in tune!!!

10. Yoko Oh No
Self explanatory.

11. Welcome Christmas (aka Abu Dorre)
From “the Grinch Who Stole Christmas” animated Christmas special. This is the song that the Whos in Whoville sang. Ours is a vocal jazz arrangement.

12. We’re Gonna Have a Merry Christmas
Another David Newman original. Upbeat and fun.

13. Mikey’s Christmas Carol
A Mike Healy Original. Everything was sung and played by Mike. A bit of a Beach Boys feel with a wry sense of humor.

14. I’m A Christmas Tree
Recorded by Dr. Demento. This is a faithful rendition of the original. Best sung at top volume in front of your tree.

15. Christmas With The Devil
Recorded by Spinal Tap. This Mangum Opus of Metal is Tap at its sarcastic best! First part is in its original form, the second part is in a dirgy “Type O Negative” feel and the third part has a pop punk flair sung in Spanish!!!!! Epic! The keen ear will also catch the guitar riffs from “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk this Way” by Aerosmith.

16. HIDDEN TRACK Merry Christmas I Don’t Want To Fight Anymore (Mumble Mix)
Same as track six except that the vocal is Mark Moots interpretation the original Joey Ramone version, kinda.

Enjoy! Merry Everything to Everyone and don’t pass up the Spyke Deggnogg!!!
